Who is responsible for art? In FIGURE DRAWING FOR DUMMIES, when a previously unknown painter rises to overnight, viral fame, it seems like a dream come true. The only problem? The painting that everyone loves is a nude of her girlfriend, a younger woman who didn’t explicitly consent to being the subject. As the painter’s career skyrockets, the painted woman’s life is left to be defined by her naked form. Twenty years later, the painter is preparing to unveil a second painting of the same woman, asking the questions: who deserves the credit, and are we truly separate from those who care for us?

Bios
Daisy Schreiber – Playwright
Daisy (she/her) is an actor, writer, administrator, stage manager, eldest daughter, and always happy to help out. Recently a graduate of the University of Washington, and a lifelong Seattleite, she is profoundly grateful to call the PNW home. Daisy cares deeply about honest stories that unearth unexpected commonalities, attempts to approach her artistry with tremendous love and gratitude for those around her, and admits that she’s a sucker for a happy ending. She thinks often of the ways bodies construct meaning onstage, and aims to tell stories that soften the barbs we turn on ourselves. Outside of rehearsal, Daisy works at a small cookie bakery, video-chats with her cats, and always wants a hug.
Sammy Weinert – Director
Sammy (she/they) is a director, performer, and professional cat-wrangler, among many other things. She is thrilled to be making her Annex directorial debut with this show – discovering such an exciting theater right in her backyard feels something like stumbling upon a pile of buried treasure. You may have seen Sammy’s recent work on THE STUPIDEST SCARIEST TIME, Tutti Frutti: A Clown Show, and an array of projects at The University of Washington, ranging from medical simulations to sprawling interactive audio landscapes. In the daylight hours, Sammy works at a nearby cat cafe, thinks deeply about the world, enjoys every form of programming on Dropout TV, and spends time with her wonderful partner Henri.

Taylor Allen – Artist
Taylor Allen is a graduate from the USC School of Theatre where she was the Commencement Speaker for her class. Some of her recent and favorite roles include Juliet in Romeo & Juliet, Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Helena in R.U.R., Catherine in The Foreigner, Lead Vocalist in Side by Side by Sondheim, and Eddie in Mamma Mia. A big thank you to friends and family!
Makayla Hopkins – Muse
Makayla is very excited to play “Muse” in her first work with Annex! This piece has been a blessing to work and play with. Makayla would like to thank her boyfriend and her family for their support!

Her more recent credits include the audio-drama Metropolis (Zora Bal); Seattle Shakespeare Company’s Henry IV (Henry IV), The Tempest (Gonzalo), and The Comedy of Errors (Egeon, Pinch, Balthazar); Strawberry Theatre Workshop’s Gloria: A Life (Gloria and Ensemble); and the world premieres of Pony World Theatre’s Not Our Town (Mrs. Gibbs), The Shattered Glass Project’s Want (Ruby), and Book-It Rep’s The Bonesetter’s Daughter (Old Widow Lau, Sister Yu). In Portland, she was most recently seen in Third Rail Rep’s Infinite Life (Yvette) and Yohen (Sumi) with PassinArt in a co-production with Portland Playhouse. She was nominated for an Elly Award for acting for Chinglish in Nevada City, won Footlight and Gypsy Awards for acting in Chinglish at ArtsWest, received a 2019 Gypsy Award for acting in Washer/Dryer with SIS Productions, and was honored with the Gregory Award for Sustained Achievement in Theatre in 2017.
