Comedy Fist Fight – the ultimate phrase-off!
Presented by Peopleʼs Republic of Komedy
Fri-Sat nights, Nov 27 to Dec 5, at 9 pm
$10 gen / $5 stu
“The phrase off” is a jokewriting competition in which two competitors are given the first half of a phrase and a few hours to finish it. A panel of audience judges decides which phrase is funnier in a best 3 out of 5 competition. Each night consists of 6 comedians competing to be Phrase-Off Champion of the night. Not exactly improv, this contest/free-for-all will showcase some of the brightest and most appalling minds of the Seattle comedy scene. Words will be said, prizes will be given, and everyone will leave a better person. Hosted by Emmett “Mr. Hopeful” Montgomery!
“Comedy Fist Fight, by the People’s Republic of Komedy, wins through the element of surprise….Local writers, from comedians to Stranger writers, play a game called ‘finish my phrase.’…[Emmett] Montgomery is a capable host, dialing into whatever glory or shame is happening onstage and leveraging it for the audience’s benefit. And the game-show element keeps things moving—if you don’t like what’s happening onstage, wait a couple of minutes for a fresh hell of embarrassment and competition.”
